Step by Step: Copy a Canvas Course

Begin by navigating to your destination course. In this context, the destination course is the empty course ready to receive copied content. In Canvas, copying a course is an import process.

Step 1: Navigate to the empty destination course.

Step 2: In the Course Navigation, click or tap Settings.

Step 3: Click or tap the Import Course Content link.

Step 4: Click or tap the Content Type drop-down list, then click or tap Copy a Canvas Course.

Step 5: Click or tap the field under Search for a course. Begin by typing the name of your course. The list will begin to filter your results. Be sure to select the course you would like to copy from.

Note: Include completed courses is checked by default which includes past concluded courses.

Step 6: Click or tap the All content radio button to import all content.

Final Step: Click or tap the Add to Import Queue button.

Note: By checking the Select specific content box, specific content can be selected for import. 

Note: Canvas allows instructors to adjust events and due dates from semester to semester. By checking the Adjust events and due dates box, additional prompts will ask for the beginning date and ending date of the course and make adjustments to events and due dates accordingly.
