There is a bug in Canvas causing the grade book to fill with zeros after importing data from a previous course if a late policy was enabled in that originating course. It would be best for you to do this before publishing a course at the beginning of the term.
Step 1: Follow this guide to reset the live Destination Course: Step by Step: Resetting a Course.
Note: Although resetting a course will remove all student submissions and clear out course data, it will keep all enrollments.
Step 2: Copy the Source Course data into a Master Shell. Referencing this guide: Step by Step: Copying a Course.
Step 3: In the Master Shell navigate to the grade book and turn off the Late Policy. Navigate to the Gradebook and select the cog wheel icon.
Step 4: Under Late Policies, uncheck "Automatically apply grade for missing submissions".
Step 5: Apply the settings.
Step 6: Following this guide: Step by Step: Copying a Course, import the course data from the Master Shell to your live destination course.
Note: If you need a Master Shell reach out to icampussupport@jjc.edu.
